Shining a spotlight on a superstar nurse for Nurse Appreciation Week
During Nurse Appreciation Week, Aspirus St. Luke’s spotlighted one of its incredible nurses.
Molly Hastings has been with Aspirus St. Luke’s for two years as nurse assistant and now as a nurse. She previously worked as an EMT and a 911 dispatcher. She says she’s always been drawn to helping others.
“I’ve always enjoyed health care and health, and working with people, building relationships. And even if it’s for just a couple hours, like, with float pool, sometimes we’re only with people a couple hours. Even that’s meaningful for, I think, both sides of the relationship to just care for people in a setting when they’re not really feeling the best,” said Hastings.
She takes notice of the impact her work has on her patients.
“You can tell when patients feel comfortable,” said Hastings
Having a nurse that cares about each patient’s comfort level during often stressful situations is critical.
“It usually is my goal during a shift. I’ll make them feel comfortable. And whether it’s just a hot wash rag to the face or a pain medication, I like to make sure that they’re comfortable. And even if it’s just cracking a joke, because sometimes that can be funny,” said Hastings.
With no shortage of humility, Hastings says all of her colleagues work just as hard as she does, making sure patient’s needs are taken care.
