The Northerly School for Music held its grand opening for its new location on Saturday, bringing another opportunity for aspiring musicians to learn a new instrument to the Northland.

Relocating to the Lakeside neighborhood from Downtown Duluth, the Northerly School for Music offers lessons in string instruments such as guitar, banjo, bass guitar, fiddle, violin, viola, and more, along with other instruments including piano, flute, and voice.

The school not only aims to teach its students a new instrument but connect them with others who enjoy the art of music.

“I think the core of our business is community. And I think we serve the community through mentorship, through in music, more than just your standard private lessons design. So, we’re looking for students who are looking to have a musical life and just to be a part of that and as long as we can maintain that,” said Kyla Orla, owner of Northerly School for Music.

Orla also offers repair services for fretted acoustic string instruments – primarily vintage instruments – at the Northerly School for Music.
