Munger Shaw Fire grows, prompts evacuations

Update 5/13/25 6:10 p.m.

The St. Louis County Sheriffs office has said the Munger Shaw fire has increased to around 1600 acres, and is slowly spreading north. As a result Evacuations have started, both in the Pioneer Lake area and the Morley Beach Road area.

Currently, authorities have closed the following roads in the area.

  • Three Lakes Road at Winkle Lane (no eastbound traffic)
  • Three Lakes Road at Rush Lake Grade (no westbound traffic)
  • Munger Shaw Road at Morley Beach Road (no southbound traffic)

The Munger Shaw Fire that ignited Monday is 1,400 acres in size and 0% contained, according to the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center.

It is burning between to the east of Hwy 53 in the Canyon, Minn. area.

Firefighters and multiple aircraft responded on Monday and will again Tuesday. St. Louis County is coordinating road closures. The public is asked to avoid these areas to allow fire personnel to work.
