Minnesota teen dies in firework accident

A 13-year-old boy from Naytahwaush, Minnesota died after being struck by a firework on the evening of Friday, July 4.

According to the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to the 300 block of New Circle Drive just after 11p.m., where they found the victim without a pulse and not breathing.

Responders made attempts to save the boy’s life until medical assistance arrived, but the victim was pronounced dead just after midnight.

The victim has been identified as Michael Turner. Witnesses say Turner was holding a large firework, pointing it away from himself, but when lit, it fired through the bottom of the tube and struck him in the chest.

The Sheriff’s Office says the incident remains under investigation pending an autopsy.
