Minnesota ranked first in the nation for youth voter turnout, Wisconsin ranked first overall

Minnesota ranked first in the nation for youth voter turnout in the 2024 Presidential Election according to newly released data from an independent research group at Tufts University. The data shows that 62% of Minnesotans aged 18 to 29 turned out to vote, exceeding the national average of 47%.

“Minnesotans have a long tradition of voting in sky-high numbers and I’m thrilled to see that tradition continue in the next generation,” said Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon. “Here in Minnesota, we’re proud of the strong laws and culture that support civic participation for eligible voters and ensure that our elections are free, fair, and secure.”

In total, 76.35% of eligible Minnesotans voted, ranking the state second in the nation for overall voter turnout. Minnesota had ranked first in 2020. Wisconsin ranked first overall in 2024 with 76.64% of its eligible voters casting their ballots.

“While we’re disappointed to have barely come up short in our effort to stay #1 in overall voter turnout, we are proud we got so close even as we gained many new eligible voters in 2024,” said Secretary Simon. “I’ll happily take the trade of ceding the top spot so that more Minnesotans could regain the right to vote. Now, the work continues to regain our spot as #1 in 2026.”

The national average was 64.04%.
