Medical teams ready for runners who need help during and after Grandma’s
When people cross the finish line at Grandma’s, they are usually elated and tired.
But sometimes, their bodies need help recovering.
That’s why Essentia Health is there to be the official medical team for the marathon. They’ll have an army of medical people volunteering and ready to help.
They have three tents set up at the finish line, and they are bigger this year to make sure everyone has enough room.
One is for more critical problems, another for ortho and muscular issues, and the main tent is where most of the people will be treated who come in and need hydration or to be cooled down.
Dr. Kathryn McLellan is the Medical Director for the race, and told us, “It’s really top of the line care here. Most people leave and go out to the party, or at least go home.”
Longtime volunteer and RN Angie Brown shared that it’s such a great experience, being with the other volunteers, and then meeting the runners from all over the world.
The advice is to stay hydrated and follow your training. Also, seek medical help if you need it. There are five tents along the route, and people will be patrolling as well.
