Lead lines and legislation town hall
Lead water lines are underground pipes that carry drinking water from the public water main to individual properties, and they can be a significant source of lead in drinking water.
Lead exposure, especially for children, can have serious health consequences, including developmental and cognitive issues.
Wisconsin 73rd Assembly District State Representative, Angela Stroud was in Superior Monday night. Stroud held a ‘Lead lines and legislation’ town hall here.
Cities everywhere are working to identify and replace lead service lines as part of a broader effort to protect public health. But Stroud says that’s a complicated endeavor.
“So the issue is should we change State law to give a private company access to public money to upgrade their infrastructure, but also to upgrade the infrastructure of customers who have led service lines? So, you know, it’s some people think this is simple. It’s not.”
Superior residents were able to hear directly from Rep. Stroud about current efforts to address the issue of lead service line replacement.
After hearing from residents in northern Wisconsin’s 73rd district, Stroud says she’s now ready to help move toward a solution that is in the best interest of residents, ratepayers and taxpayers.
