Duluth community members gathered for a special Sunday service honoring MLK

On Sunday evening, worshippers of many different denominations gathered at the Peace United Church of Christ in Duluth to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the eve of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

‘“You know it’s just a range of faith traditions that show up today we don’t necessarily all worship the same, but we worship the same God,” said Reverend Joanne Coffin-Langdon, chair of the worship service.

The service not only kicks off Duluth’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations but celebrates the act of coming together instead of breaking apart.

“The worship today we are wanting to present a community worship experience that honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and it’s one event in the midst of many events that Duluth is doing to celebrate his legacy,” said

“We’re not just a bunch of separate siloed off churches here in Duluth but we’re a conglomeration of churches showing sharing love and showing love within the Duluth area,” said Reverend Angela Barnes, pastor of St. Mark’s AME in Duluth.

The worship service focused on getting along with one another in a time when the world has been divided, and the diversity of worshippers at the event was proof that community can be made out of those with different beliefs.
