Justin Liles: Some wildfire smoke and some rain
A subtle shift in the weather pattern is set to carry wildfire smoke across parts of the Northland this evening and part of Friday. An east-to-west band of heavy Canadian wildfire smoke will drift further south into northern Minnesota behind a cold front through the day and evening on Thursday. Most of this smoke will gradually retreat north into Canada and disperse throughout Friday afternoon. Still, there is some potential for smoke to linger near the North Shore of Lake Superior into the evening.

The cold front will also continue to bring in more widespread showers tonight as the rain spreads into Wisconsin. Another round of isolated thunderstorms is possible Friday afternoon before precipitation chances diminish. A better chance for more widespread rainfall is expected for Sunday into Monday. Some stronger westerly winds are possible late Sunday into Monday. As much as a .25” or more of much-needed rain is likely Saturday through Sunday.
