Jenkins Creek Fire 94% contained while Horse River Fire sits at 0% contained

The National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) Team is reporting that the Jenkins Creek Fire is sitting at 94% contained, while the Horse River Fire near the BWCA is still at 0% contained.

Officials are anticipating the possibility of active fire behavior with changing weather. Monday’s primary focus will be to patrol and secure areas of heat that crews have been working on over the last several days.

In an update NIMO says, “We will see higher temperatures that approach the mid-80s, humidity between 25 – 30%, and winds gusting between 25 – 30 mph. These are near red flag warning conditions that can produce extreme fire weather and fire behavior.”

The size of the Jenkins Creek Fire is now at 16,091 acres and the Horse River Fire is at 13 acres.

On Sunday, helicopter water drops occurred at the northwest area of the fire. NIMO says crews will revisit this area Monday as well as at the vicinity of Laird Creek to make sure these areas are secure.

Officials say no additional sources of heat were detected on Sunday in the southern area of the fire. Another Unmanned Aerial System (UAS/drone) will assist in mapping the perimeter of the Jenkins Creek Fire. The UAS crew continues to fly missions at night to locate remaining residual heat withing the perimeter of the fire.

Workers will not be conducting hazard tree removal in the Cadotte Campground area Monday because of potential of increased fire weather conditions. This work will begin once the situation changes.

There are approximately 212 fire personnel working on the Jenkins Creek Fire and 23 assigned to the Horse River Fire.
