Hands-on learning on display at Spartan Manufacturing open house
Student-driven enterprises are often pretty exciting and that was certainly the case Wednesday night at Superior high school.
The school’s Spartan Manufacturing proudly hosted their second annual open house. The school program has three shops, an auto shop, a metal shop, and a wood shop.
Adam Kuhlman is one of the tech teachers at Superior high. He says they are giving students the skills that local employers are looking for.
“One of our big goals is to remove the stigma around a two-year degree or going into an apprenticeship,” Kuhlman said. “We want to expose students to all their post-high school options, and a lot of them have really found their home down here.”
Students like Maxwell Carey are learning skills in the machining program. Carey told us, “I think CNC machining would be awesome. But I am ready and willing to do whatever comes my way. Whether it be engineering or even something completely unrelated. I’m still building employability skills and learning some hands-on stuff too.”
There’s also a place for students who are more business-minded. There are lessons on how to help run the office side of things.
The Spartan Manufacturing program is open to visitors. If you are interested in arranging a tour, contact Superior High School.
