Grand Rapids man faces 20 charges related to death of goats

Prosecutors have filed 20 charges against a Grand Rapids man related to animal cruelty.

The criminal complaint says Jake Langeslag, 42, had been staying on a property in Bovey, along with his goats.

The property owner reported potential animal neglect to Itasca County in February.

Once a search warrant was executed, authorities reportedly recovered more than 90 dead goats.

A veterinarian reported that it appears the goats died from water deprivation and malnutrition.

Other surviving goats on the property were relocated to a farm where they could be properly cared for, per the complaint.

There is a pending case in Rice County related to alleged mistreatment of a horse.
