Governor Tony Evers visits Superior middle school and calls for funding of public schools
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers visited Superior middle school to meet staff and students on the first day of school Tuesday September 3rd.
Evers took a student led tour through the school greeting the principal, food service staff and teachers on his way through the building.
Evers spoke with Superior middle school’s leaders on his reasons for visiting Superior Wisconsin.
“I like coming to Superior. I come as often as I can. It’s important for me to understand the issues affecting Superior. I’ve been to the school district several times now and we’ve been to the university several times and it helps me be a better governor,” said Governor Tony Evers “It’s a no brainer to come here and I just love coming here. Great people and great opportunity for me.”
Evers also spoke on the rising number of referendums going to fund public schools in Wisconsin and his concern for the future of school districts.
“Many school districts are for the first time going to referendum, not to build a new building but to pay their help. That’s not a place we want to be in the state of Wisconsin,” said Governor Tony Evers. “We don’t want any school district to go out of business. We have to take this as an opportunity to think about what we do as a state as far as funding our schools. It’s quite simple, school districts should not have to go to referendum to keep their lights on.”
