Jenkins Fire SE of Hoyt Lakes at 1,000 acres
The U.S. Forest Service reports they are fighting a new wildfire near Hoyt Lakes. As of 4 p.m. the Jenkins Creek Fire is estimated to be 1,000 acres in size and still increasing, according to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s Office. Multiple aircraft and ground firefighters are working to suppress the blaze.
A Minnesota Type 3 Incident Management Team has been ordered to help manage additional fire suppression actions and resources and will provide an update later Monday evening.
The Jenkins Creek Fire is approximately 14 miles southeast of Hoyt Lakes. It’s burning east of the junction between County Roads 110 and 16. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff, this second fire has engulfed one structure.
According to a post on St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsay’s Facebook page, residents in this area should stay alert. This is a different fire than the Camp House Road fire.
The Cadotte Lake Campground is being evacuated as a precaution “due to its location due east of this fire and the amount of time it takes to notify and move campers.”
The Forest Service says the situation continues to evolve.
“The public is asked to stay out of the area for safety reasons to allow for firefighting resources to suppress the fire,” the Forest Service wrote on Facebook. “Unauthorized unmanned aircraft system (drone) flights threaten firefighter safety and wildland fire suppression efforts.”
