Potential victim identified in fatal house fire near Orr

8:45 a.m. Friday 2/7/25 update: St. Louis County officials say they located human remains at the fire scene Thursday afternoon in Leiding Township. They are are believed to be that of Matthew Bisbee of Orr.


The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reports that one person was likely killed in a Leiding Township house fire early on Thursday, February 6. The office and several fire departments were called to a fire on the 3500 block of Highway 119 in Leiding Township around 6:50 am and discovered the home completely engulfed.

A 57-year-old woman from Orr was able to get out of the house. Her husband, a 57-year-old man from Orr, was last seen awake in the house according to the Sheriff’s Office. Authorities believe that the male perished in the fire.

The home is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the MN State Fire Marshal.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Orr Fire Department, Cook Fire Department, Bois Forte Fire Department, Orr Ambulance, Buyck Fire Department, Kabetogama Fire Department, Bearville Fire Department, and French Fire Department.
