Extension of unemployment benefits for steelworkers included in final jobs budget

Senator Grant Hauschild announced that the extension of unemployment benefits has been included in the final Jobs and Labor budget agreement.
That means 630 men and women laid off between HibTac and Minorca will be eligible for another 26 weeks of unemployment benefits.
“This is about standing with the men and women who built Northern Minnesota and power our economy,” said Senator Hauschild. “When our steelworkers are laid off, we don’t turn our backs on them—we step up. I fought to make sure this provision stayed in the bill, and now we’re prepared to deliver real relief for these families.”
The budget agreement now awaits action in the upcoming special session, expected to begin as early as next week. Hauschild is from Hermantown.
