Duluth Police: Possible credit card fraud in area

Duluth Police are alerting the public about a possible debit card fraud in the area. According to authorities, customers of the Members Cooperative Credit Union have reported debit card fraud with the use of a skimmer. A ‘skimmer’ is a credit card reader that can be disguised to look like a part of the ATM.

If you believe you are a victim of this fraud, you are encouraged to call Members Cooperative Credit Union at 800-296-8871 to report it. According to Duluth Police, the bank will compile a list and give the information to authorities to investigate further.

The Members Cooperative Credit Union issued a statement on their Facebook page, saying they are aware of fraudulent debit card activity in the region and that Members has take action to protect their members.

The number of customers affected by this fraud, and the total amount lost is still under investigation.

To prevent being a victim of a skimming scam, DPD suggests you run your debit card as a credit card, or tap the card instead of swiping or inserting.
