Duluth East football team’s community cleanup
The Duluth East High School football program held their first ever community cleanup on Sunday, May 18.
Nearly 60 people came out to help more old appliances, pick up trash and litter, and stack firewood for their neighbors in Lakeside.
“Our football program at East, really the goal of our program is that we’re trying to build people a strong character who strive for excellence in academics, athletics, and the community. And an event like this goes a long way towards building character and also being able to outreach to the community and build relationships with community members,” said head coach Blane Tetrault.
For the athletes, these types of volunteering opportunities give them opportunities to connect with people in their community and help people with things they need done.
“I really enjoy doing volunteer stuff. I do a lot of volunteering with the Downs Syndrome Association of Minnesota. And so, I just love helping out people and getting out, especially in my community. Like I love East, and I love lakeside and all this community,” said junior Anthony Carlson.
Summer practices for the team begin in late June.
