Four cats and two dogs perish in Virginia house fire

Several Iron Range fire departments responded to a house fire in Virginia, according to the Northland Fire Wire, Tuesday afternoon, June 17. The fire was reported shortly before 3:00 p.m. on the 200 block of 3rd Street South.
The Virginia Fire Department said that extensive damage was done to the single-family home, but that crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring structures. No one is believed to have been home when the fire started, but the department did later receive word that there may have been pets inside.
The Friends of the Northland Fire Wire reports that four cats and two dogs perished in the fire.
One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat-related symptoms.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Responding agencies included the Virginia, Eveleth, Mountain Iron, Hibbing, Fayal, Gilbert, and Pike-Sandy-Britt Fire Departments.
