Cloquet City Councilor passes away

Cloquet City Councilor Warren “Bun” Carlson passed away on January 12 at the age of 68, as per Nelson Funeral Care. According to his obituary, Carlson passed away due to complications for a genetic hear condition.

Carlson was elected to Cloquet City Council in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022 representing Ward 1. WDIO has reached out to the City of Cloquet to determine what plans are for the vacant seat.

“Bun liked to keep busy enjoying hunting grouse, ducks, and pheasant. He was an avid deer hunter, enjoying years of fellowship with his brothers, cousins, and friends,” reads his obituary. “Bun was an avid fisherman enjoying many trips to Canada fishing as well as to the Boundary Waters with his best friend, Steve. After college Bun took up the sport of golf and was the “entertainment” at the Thursday night golf league for years. Everyone loved Bun. Always smiling, quick to lend a hand, wicked sense of humor, and he loved his family so much.”

As per his obituary, Carlson is survived by his wife of 38 years, Brenda (Johansen); daughters, Alexa (Paul) Deppeler, Kelly (John) Scheuer; granddaughter, Hazel Scheuer and two grand-babies due in May; brothers, Gordy (Karen) Carlson, Keith Carlson; sister-in-law, Jill Carlson; brother-in-law, Daniel (Laurel) Johansen; nephews, Curt, Chris, Cory, Scott, and Darrin Carlson and Jack Johansen; nieces, Sheri Sorenson and Grace Johansen.

Nelson Funeral Care said visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. memorial service at the Presbyterian Church of Cloquet.
