City hopes barrier will stop motor vehicles from using ski trails

The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation Department will put up a temporary snow barrier at the Piedmont Ski Trails “to prevent unauthorized motor vehicle access.”
Staff say it’s in response to “rare but concerning trespassing incidents that have occurred recently.”
They’ll use surrounding snow to build up a natural barrier. According to a press release, they discussed more permanent solutions like concrete or boulders, but those would inhibit the grooming equipment used on the trails.
Motor vehicles are not allowed on trails in City of Duluth parks. The city also maintains Magney Snively, Chester Park, Hartley Park, and Lester Park trails.
If there are unauthorized vehicles spotted, Parks and Rec says to call 911 and report it to Duluth Police.
