Campfire spreads, destroys cabin in Northern St. Louis County

Emergency services were called to a report of a structure fire in Greenwood Township on Thursday. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s office, the call came in at 3:08 p.m. regarding a fire at 4500 block of Serenity Point Road. As crews responded, they found the building fully engulfed and flames were spreading to the nearby woods.
Multiple fire departments responded and crews were able to put out the fire and there was no damage to other property. No one was injured.
The Sheriff’s office says an investigation determined a small campfire had spread and started the cabin on fire.
The Greenwood Fire Department, Breiting Fire Department, Tower Fire Department, Tower Ambulance, the Minnesota DNR and the U.S. Forest Service assisted the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Minnesota DNR, much of the area is under high to very high fire danger. The St. Louis County Sheriff reminds residents to always check on fire conditions, especially for the fishing opener.
