Bodies of two campers located on Isle Royale National Park

According to authorities, the bodies of two unidentified campers were located at a remote backcountry campground within Isle Royale National Park. Park officials received two separate reports at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, that two people had been found deceased within the park.

The report says two park rangers hiked 11 miles overnight to reach the campground area. When they arrived early Monday morning, they found the two individuals deceased. The causes of the deaths are unknown at this time.

Park officials say additional ground and aviation resources also responded Monday.

There is an active investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

According to the Isle Royale National Park website, the park has 36 campgrounds located across the island. It is not known at this time, at which of the campsites the bodies were located.

In August, 2024 a Battle Creek, Michigan woman died while hiking after suffering a medical emergency.
