4th annual Law Day 5K, a run for justice
Justice North hosted its 4th annual Law Day 5K on April 27th. At 9am they invited community members to grab their running shoes and meet at Duluth East High School to support access to justice. The event started and ended at the high school, while it took a scenic run out back along Duluth’s Lakewalk.
This annual event helps raise funds to support Justice North’s goal of providing free civil legal help to those in need. Last year, the Law Day 5K raised over $10,000, which went directly to benefit individuals and families seeking legal assistance.
Despite the rain and wind, runners took off at 9am with the three runners racing for the included prizes. There was also a “Suit Up for Justice” Contest that saw who the three best-dressed runners were and awarded special prizes.
According to their website, Justice North serves 11 counties in northeastern Minnesota, with offices in Duluth, Virginia, Grand Rapids, Brainerd, and Pine City. They provide representation, limited services, advice, or information to individuals with issues that fall outside of the criminal justice system. For people facing civil legal challenges such as the threat of losing their home, safety, health care, income, or even their families, navigating the justice system without a lawyer can be nearly impossible.
