Jeep pulled out of Spirit Lake after 13 years

A Jeep that had been resting on the bottom of Spirit Lake in the St. Louis River was pulled out of the water on February 3rd, according to the St. Louis County Rescue Squad.

Local fisherman had known about the vehicle in the water for some time, but originally believed it was a piece of a dock that had washed away in the flood of 2012. It wasn’t until recent sonar scans of the structure revealed that it was in fact a car.

Since there was no way of knowing whether there were people inside or not, it had to be removed from the water. Luckily, there were no people inside when they got it out.

Retrieval of the vehicle was a collaborative effort between the Superior/Douglas County Dive Team, Sheriff’s Deputies, Duluth Police, Duke’s Towing, National Weather Service Duluth, 911 Dispatchers, and Hodgson Off-Road Recovery.
