Independent Bookstore Day is a time to celebrate local shops that put a lot of effort into curating their selection for readers. In Superior, Foxes & Fireflies Booksellers held a book launch event for a local author to celebrate the holiday, highlighting the importance of local partnership within the industry.

Their selection is wide ranging, and they are more than willing to accommodate customers to make sure they get the book they want.

“We sell new and used books. We have all genres and we’re very willing to special order if there’s something we don’t have. We’re a small bookshop and we’re starting, we’re growing, and the more people can come in and let us know what they want to see on the shelves the more we can make it the bookstore that they want,” said owner Maria Lockwood.

Their featured author was Denis James, a Superior resident, who released the second book in his “Arcane Rebellion” series, titled “Hunter.” James is extremely grateful for Foxes & Fireflies, and is still amazed at the support he’s gotten from local readers.

“It’s so surreal um to have somebody come up and be like oh my gosh I read your first book I loved it I’m here to buy the second book I’m like hold on, you actually read the book? Like, wow. I hate to say it’s surprising, but it’s so uplifting and it’s so inspiring, it’s so empowering to me to have somebody come seek me out at a bookstore,” said James.
