Closures and detours due to St. Mary’s demolition

Portions of East Third Street and Fifth Avenue East in Duluth will be partially closed starting this week as contractors continue their work in the demolition of Essentia’s old St. Mary’s Hospital according to a representative for the City of Duluth.

The closures are as follows:
300 block of Fifth Avenue East: Closure will be from the alley between Third and Fourth Streets toward Third Street. The alley will remain open. Pedestrians will be able to cross via a protected walkway on the east side of Fifth Avenue East.
400 block of Third East Street: Block is currently closed between Fourth Avenue East and Fifth Avenue East. This closure will continue during this time. Access will continue to be allowed to the Third Street Clinic and Green Ramp by following posted signs. Pedestrians can continue to use the protected walkway on the south side of Third Street through the closure period.
Signage will be in place for a detour utilizing Sixth Avenue East to Fourth Street, Fourth Street to Fourth
Avenue East, back to Third Street during the closure period according to the city.
