Chum’s Rhubarb Festival raising thousands of funds for 20 years

Chum's Rhubarb Festival continues to raise thousands of dollars throughout 20 years and this year is critical for the non-profit's expansion of their shelter.

For two decades Chum’s Rhubarb Festival continues being a pivotal fundraiser for the non-profit. Residents from the Twin Ports and beyond donated and enjoyed different rhubarb pies, jellies, jams, brats, burgers and more. New this year, Chum’s Rhubarb Festival was relocated to Asbury United Church in west Duluth.

This annual fest helps their their mission of combating homelessness in the Duluth area. Volunteers put in hours of hard work to make this event happen, with baking and selling the pies. Tim Wilson the Director of Mission Advancement for Chum says they need all the support the community can provide as they undergo significant changes.

“It’s our single biggest fundraiser. It is our biggest fundraiser, because everybody’s having a great time here. Families, individuals, they’re eating, they’re enjoying the music,” Wilson said. “The kids you can see playing games, something for everybody in the family.”

In addition to money being raised at the festival, Chum says they’re always looking for other kinds of donations as well.

“Food donations are always needed, clothing’s always appreciated. Particularly socks, and particularly when it starts to get colder. That’s our number one clothes item need is,” Wilson said. “Just clean white socks that come in packages of six, eight, 12 at the box stores.”

All of the funds from Rhubarb Festival goes to Chum’s emergency shelter which they are working to expand. Food and clothing donations can be made at Chum’s admin office in downtown Duluth. Also for other stories happening with Chum’s Rhubarb Festival you can read more here.
