Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has caught flack for many things in recent years, from allegedly seeking dismissal of a case against a major company to a beard he grew over the holidays.

The latest social media firestorm is over doughnuts.

Specifically, Trudeau posted an image of himself on Twitter purchasing dozens of doughnuts from a local bakery in Winnipeg called Oh Doughnuts.  He made the purchase Monday, saying they would provide fuel for his cabinet during a day of meetings.

Critics quickly replied, pointing out that Oh Doughnuts is much more expensive than other bakeries such as Tim Horton's.  Oh Doughnuts' website lists its products at $35 per dozen and higher.

The bakery defended itself, saying that it treats employees better than Tim Horton's and criticizing the national chain's business practices.

The English-language version of Trudeau's Tweet elicited more than 1,500 replies, while the French version received only 30. It does not appear Trudeau has responded to the criticism.
