The Minnesota State Fair says it's official: the "Great Minnesota Get-Together" will happen this year.

After the 2020 event was mostly cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fair's board of managers took action Friday to affirm that the 2021 event will happen. Fair organizers said in a news release that health and safety is their top priority and they will continue to follow and monitor federal and state health guidance.

"We’re working hard to ensure a healthy and safe environment, so if you’re ready to get together later this summer, the fair will be here and ready to welcome you back," General Manager Jerry Hammer said in a news release.

Organizers do not anticipate daily attendance limits since restrictions on large gatherings have been eased.

Masks will not be required, but the fair will encourage mask use by people who have not been fully vaccinated. Proof of vaccination will not be required.

This year's dates for the fair are August 26 through September 6, which is Labor Day. The fair takes place in the Twin Cities suburb of Falcon Heights.
