Updated: Victim identified in fatal crash on Mesaba Avenue

A woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Duluth Saturday afternoon. On Monday morning, police released her name. She was 63-year-old Angela Joyce Wanta.


Police say officers responded to the area of Mesaba Ave and 7th Street at approximately 4:30pm Saturday.

On scene, officers learned that an SUV traveling upbound on Mesaba Avenue crossed the median and struck a pickup truck traveling southbound on Mesaba Avenue.

Wanta, who was a passenger in the upbound SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The male driver of the SUV sustained non-life threatening injuries, and the male driver of the truck was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say it is not known whether impairment was a factor in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
