St. Louis County has joined counties across the state in working to establish a pool of volunteers willing to help in the fight against COVID-19. They will do this through the Minnesota Responds Medical Reserve Corps.

Scott Lesnau, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the County said volunteers are anticipated to help deliver groceries and medications to doorsteps of people in quarantine.

While working, Lesnau said volunteers will receive personal protective equipment to keep them safe. Additionally, they won't have contact with anyone infected.

The requirements to volunteer are that individuals must be 18 or older and pass a background check, but Lesnau encourages people to apply.

“Employers like to look to see what you've done in the past and volunteering is always something that seems to sort of come up in the discussions when you are reviewing resumes before you determine who you actually want to interview so it could be a good thing,” Lesnau said.

Those who would like to sign up to volunteer can do so here.
