For the first year ever, the Northshore Scenic Railroad offered a Christmas Tree Train.

The family train ride was from the St. Louis County Depot in Duluth to the newly restored Knife River Depot to pick out a Christmas tree that is hauled back on the train.

Organizers saying it was a hit for it’s first year.

"The whole event sold out in just one day," said Ken Buehler, general manager of the Northshore Scenic Railroad. "We have people from North Dakota, from Minnesota, from Wisconsin, from Michigan’s upper peninsula and they all came to the Northland."

The ride offered hot cocoa and live music while choosing a special, commercially grown tree from the lot.
