A St. Scholastica student was injured while biking on the Superior Hiking Trail this week, resulting in a rescue by first responders.
To prevent further injuries as a growing number of bikers hit the trails this spring and summer, the Duluth Fire Department shared some insight on bike safety.
They recommend:
"Nowadays, we have more extreme sports than we used to and while we have better equipment than we had years ago, that comes with a lot of responsibility,” Asst. Chief Brent Consie for the Duluth Fire Department said.
In addition to the tips above, Consie said that bikers should also be aware of others that they could run into on the trail.
“You always have to be ready for anything that's ahead of you and be able to slow down before you get to that," Consie said.
