A celebration of the backgrounds and cultures found all around us took place Saturday afternoon in Duluth.

Neighborhood Youth Services hosted the Northland Multi-Cultural event in Canal Park.

It featured local businesses, live music, and, for Neighborhood Youth Services Director Pez Davila, a real sense of togetherness for the more than 1,000 people who joined in the festivities.

"In a world right now where it seems like there's so much of a disconnect, whether that's racially or politically or just whatever backgrounds, culturally, and we just wanted to do something that brings everybody together with no drama, just good energy, great attitudes, and just people enjoying each other," said Davila.

Neighborhood Youth Services said the next big event they're planning is a basketball tournament in the summer.

They say to follow their Facebook page to get more information on that, and other events as they come out.
