No to Duluth Sidewalk Days, but yes to drive-in movies

Duluth's Greater Downtown Council has announced that one of its big summer events won't happen this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but another will be converted to a drive-in event.

The Sidewalk Days festival, which was scheduled for July 8 to 10, will not happen this summer.  It is next scheduled for July 2021.

Meanwhile, the annual Movies in the Park event is being converted to a drive-in event.  "Drive-In style!  Movies in the Park(ing) Lot" will be held in the DECC parking lot.  Attendees will be asked to stay in their vehicles and can order concessions to be delivered to their car.

"This is a great way to continue a fun family event," said Kristi Stokes, president of the Greater Downtown Council, in a news release.  "For some, a drive-in movie will be a new experience.  But for others who grew up with outdoor theaters, it will be a slice of nostalgia."

Movies will be shown every Friday night from July 17 through August 28:

July 17 - Dolittle
July 24 - A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
July 31 - Jumanji:  The Next Level
August 7 - Harriet
August 14 - A Dog's Journey
August 21 - Peanut Butter Falcon
August 28 - Abominable

"Drive-In style!  Movies in the Park(ing) Lot" is presented by Carlson Orthodontics.  There will be a fee of $10 per car to help cover movie licensing and other costs.
