Nature Night held in Gary New Duluth

On Thursday in Gary New Duluth, kids got to teach the community about all kinds of nature topics at nature night.

The Duluth Area YMCA collaborated with Duluth Public Schools and the Gary New Duluth Rec. Center to hold this fun filled event.

It came about by the youth wanting to help educate others about the forests after recent vandalism in the area. They taught how to take care of the woods, fire safety, and enjoying campfire snacks.

One of the youth directors is excited to see the youth's involvement and concern about protecting area forests and by planting new trees tonight.

"It's really rewarding as an educator that the kids want to be the teachers and that they want to step up and put themselves out there and show people what they know,” said Leslie Bucar, Gary New Duluth Rec. Center Youth Director. “I think it really empowers them."

Bucar also says this will help kids stay interested in the science fields by instilling a love of nature and maybe one day making a career out of it.
