Man arrested for allegedly killing father, assaulting mother

A 34-year-old Colorado man is in police custody for allegedly killing his father, and assaulting his mother.

The Sawyer County Sheriff's Office says they responded to a residence on Hinton Avenue in Hayward just before 1:00 Saturday afternoon. 

Upon arrival, authorities located the body of a 72-year-old St. Paul man. Authorities say he died from an apparent stab wound.

Authorities say they also found a 65-year-old St. Paul woman in the residence with severe facial injuries and lacerations. She was life flighted to a Minnesota hospital for her injuries, and authorities say her current condition is unknown.

A 34-year-old Colorado man, reported to be the son of the victims was taken into custody, and is being held in the Sawyer County Jail on possible charges of First-Degree Intentional Homicide, Attempted First-Degree Intentional Homicide, and Substantial Battery.

The incident remains under investigation by the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office, Sawyer County Coroner's Office with assistance of the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, Wisconsin Crime Lab, and Wisconsin State Patrol.

Sawyer County Sheriff's Deputies, Sawyer County Ambulance EMT's/Paramedic, LCO Police Department, and Wisconsin DNR responded to the scene.
