The Lindahl Road bridge over the Midway River in southwestern Hermantown is set to close this week.

In March, the Hermantown City Council voted unanimously to close the bridge after learning that it would cost four times as much to repair the bridge as it would to remove it. The city also noted that removing the bridge will bring environmental benefits to the Midway River.

The bridge is on a stretch of gravel road. Residents in the area had a chance to speak about the issue at a public hearing last December.

The city had initially thought that the bridge could remain open until 2021, but inspections this summer showed a greater need to close the bridge soon.
