Residents say a home near Duluth was struck by lightning before it started on fire early Tuesday morning.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says the fire at the home on Lakeview Drive in Lakeview Township was reported at 1:29 a.m. The residents said the home was struck by lightning around 1:20 a.m. and they soon smelled smoke and saw flames coming from the eaves.

The residents were able to get out of the home safely, and no one was injured. Ten fire departments responded to the scene.

The sheriff's office said the fire burned a portion of the roof, and the home also suffered smoke damage and heavy water damage. A monetary estimate of the fire damage has not yet been determined.
