DULUTH— It's time to start thinking about summer activities. The Lake Superior Zoo’s nature-based preschool is now accepting needs-based scholarship applications for the upcoming 2021 Summer Session. According to Zoo officials, the the licensed nature-based childcare center focuses on a curriculum that will help foster a sense of conservation of nature that will continue into Kindergarten and beyond.

The scholarships are made possible through a grant from the Northland Foundation for summer programs at the Lake Superior Zoo. The Zoo School is open for children ages 33 months (fully potted trained) to 5 years old.

Summer Session begins on Monday, June 21 and ends on Friday, August 27, and the scholarship opportunity is for the Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule. Applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Interested families can apply online at LSZooDuluth.org/programs-camps/lake-superior-zoo-school.

Officials at the Lake Superior Zoo School says its mission is to inspire the healthy social, emotional, physical, creative, and cognitive development of young children through close-up experiences with animals and nature. The Zoo School opened in September 2020 and is currently serving 10 families.
