Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Duluth is collecting donations for an online auction that will be held to support one of their youth members.

13-year-old Anders Breidenbach was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma of the right femur in February 2020. Since his diagnosis, he has undergone chemotheraphy and surgery.

Anders completed his chemo infusions in November of 2020. Further treatment will include multiple surgeries on the right leg, imaging, labs, and follow-up visits.

“Anders is a very bright, very smart kid,” Brianna Krause, Youth Director said. “As the youth group here, we decided that we wanted to raise some money to help support the family in their medical expenses.”

The church’s goal is to raise $6,000. Krause said they are accepting donations of all kinds throughout the month of February.

“We are honestly looking for anything. If anybody in the community has any talents that they really enjoy doing—photography, painting, anything that they are good at. We’re happy to collect any donations,” Krause said.

The auction that will be held March 1st-26th, with different auction items posted each week.

“Obviously childhood cancer is not something that anybody would ever want to have to undergo as the child or as the parent, so ultimately, just helping somebody out in the community that will absolutely appreciate the assistance is a great reason right there,” Krause said.

Those who would like to donate to the auction can call Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 218-722-0132 or go to the auction's Facebook page.

Additionally, those who would like to follow Anders' story can do so here.
