Hermantown High School has announced they plan to hold an in-person graduation June 6th at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

The decision was made following last week’s announcement of loosened restrictions on gatherings.

“With the new announcement what we're looking at doing is renting space down at the DECC in Duluth, we believe the capacity is going to be right around 1200,” said Hermantown Community Schools Superintendent Wayne Whitman, “You know we're still working out the tentative details, but we believe with a graduating class of about 170 that would hold the guests that would attend.”

Whitman said he felt positive they’d be able to get this done, but that there are still things that need to be figured out such as seating and how they plan to practice.

Superintendent John Magas, for Duluth Public Schools, has also expressed confidence that they would be able to hold in-person graduation ceremonies, but has not yet made a formal announcement for specific graduation plans.

“The longer we wait to share exactly what we'll be doing, the greater the possibility that we might be able to do something more than we can announce now," explained Magas.

He did say, however, that Duluth Public Schools are exploring many different options such as dividing ceremonies up into different pods or having multiple different  smaller ceremonies.

Magas said people can expect an official announcement in the coming weeks.
