A group of 4th graders who play for the Hermantown Hawks commemorated K-9 Luna during their basketball game Saturday.

They did so by wearing wrist bands that had Luna's name written on them.

Players said their goal was to honor and respect her sacrifice and to thank police for their work since two players on the team have dads who work for the Duluth Police Department.

Luna died in the line of duty during a 20 hour long officer involved stand off last week.

“She was amazing,” Freddie McQueary, one of the players said. “Thank you to all the police officers and dogs.”

The players added that the wrist bands gave them luck and confidence while they played Saturday.

They play again Sunday for the Consolation Championship and will wear the wrist bands then too.
