Some will come by car, others by bus. But hundreds of Grandma's Marathon runners will get to the starting line by a less conventional method: railroad.
The North Shore Scenic Railroad will take about 1,000 runners to the Two Harbors starting line early Saturday.
"There are marathons all over the world, but there's only one that we know of that you can take a train to the starting line!" said Ken Beuhler, the railroad's General Manager.
"We load them up on the train, and we get all those runners safely to the starting line in time for their great race," Beuhler said.
The railroad also has a Viewers Train for spectators, since nearly half of the marathon course runs parallel to the railroad tracks. The train will ahve about 100 viewers and is already sold out.
The railroad is also working to get a vintage dome car ready for passengers later this summer.
