Grandma's Marathon weekend has something for everyone, and the Whipper Snapper Races are perfect for kids 14 years old and under. On Friday, parents lined the course in Bayfront Festival Park in Duluth, cheering as their kids ran by. This years race was an "own your event" style, where kids could pick to run the pre-marked courses of 100-meters, 200-meters, and 400-meters.

It is never too early to start training for a marathon. One mother, who is running the race on Saturday says sharing the experience with her kids warms the heart and makes it fun.

“It’s fun," Daisy Cartier said. " It just kinda rubs your heart, you know. You’re kinda out there, kinda doing your own thing by yourself all the time," Daisy Cartier said. "So it’s fun to see that kind of rub off on them and enjoy something that I enjoy."  She said it is fun just being active and outside.

Daisy's 4-year-old daughter Kara says she is looking forward to running the full marathon when she gets older. "I think when we grow up," Kara said, "mom said that we can go the long way."

All participants in the Whipper Snapper Races receive a ribbon at the completion of their race.

Who knows, we may see some of these runners in future marathons.
