On Monday, January 25th, Essentia Health can begin vaccinating patients 65 and older for COVID-19 in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

During a press conference Friday, leaders from Essentia explained how the process will work.

Essentia said they will notify eligible patients in two ways. The first is through My Chart—an online patient portal and the second is by phone. According to Essentia, both of these methods will be randomized.

After a patient has been contacted, Essentia said they are able to schedule an appointment to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

In the mean time, Essentia is encouraging patients to sign up for My Chart and ask that they be patient as the process plays out.

“We do have an uncertain timeline here. We are uncertain from each of our states what our vaccine allocation will be and it is possible that our appointments for the vaccination may change subsequently for the allocations that we receive, so we do ask that you continue to check your My Chart account and our website and social media accounts for other updates,” Dr. Sarah Manney, Chief Medical Information Officer said.

Essentia leaders say the vaccine is safe and effective and they're encouraging the public to get it when they get the chance.
