The Duluth Skyline Rotary presented the Duluth Fire Department with a $2,000 donation Friday afternoon.
The donation comes from the Rock the Skyline concert that has was held in late October at Clyde Iron Works.
The fire department will put the money to use in the New Year.
“We’re planning on buying what’s called an AquaEye handheld sonar unit that we will have out at station 10,” explained Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj. “We didn’t have a lot of resources in West Duluth on the river, so adding that boat and a tow vehicle to station 10 was a big upgrade there and now we’re just trying to increase, again, our capabilities out there and this is a purchase we couldn’t do without the support of Skyline Rotary and the other local rotary groups.”
Lisa Neitzel, Skyline Rotary Event Chair, said they are happy to contribute to something that could save lives.
“It’s absolutely wonderful,” said Neitzel. “We want people to be able to enjoy our lakes and rivers, but one of the most important things is that they do it safely and, if something were to happen, we’re really happy that we can have at least a part in saving lives if something does go wrong.”
