Duluth Police have identified the victim of a Sunday night shooting downtown.
According to a Monday afternoon Duluth Police Department news release, 41-year-old William David Urrutia was "struck by gunfire" on the 100 block of East 3rd Street around 9:15 Sunday night.
Urrutia was transported to a local hospital for treatment on Sunday night, but police say he has since been released.
Investigators say Urrutia and the suspect are known to one another and were involved in a "verbal altercation" before the shooting.
The suspect is still at large.
Police are asking for the public's help in collecting any information related to the shooting.
To provide information, the public can call the Duluth Police Department Violent Crimes Unit at 218-730-5050. Any information given can be confidential.
“To solve this crime, we need help from the public,” Duluth Police Department Deputy Chief Steve Stracek said in the news release. “No amount of information is too small to not call. There is no need for senseless violence like this in our community. Please help us to bring justice in this case.”
The shooting was in the same area where 22-year-old Juamada Anderson was fatally shot last month, the first homicide in the City of Duluth in 2021. Police said in the Monday news release they don't have information indicating the two shootings are related.
