A Duluth family has raised over $8,500 to help support their friends in Mexico, who are recovering from a tragic accident.

The Larsons have been friends with the Tzec's since meeting them on vacation three decades ago.

They have stayed in touch over the years, visiting when they can, and calling on holidays.

The Larsons were motivated to create a GoFundMe page for the Tzec's after an explosion caused by a gas leak destroyed the family's food stand, and left two members with severe injuries.

They say they have been humbled by the response.

"It's just truly amazing that there are people out there that, especially where we live in a hard time right now, where money is very sensitive, it's hard to come by, and people are willing to donate. We had some donors donate $800. Multiple donations at 2, 3, 4, $500 at a time, so it's fantastic," said Aaron Larson.

So far, the GoFundMe page has raised $8,585 to help rebuild the Tzec's food stand and pay for medical bills.
